Living in Aschaffenburg

Aschaffenburg is a mid-sized city of approximately 70,000 residents in the south-east of the Frankfurt-Rhine-Main metropolitan region, about 40 km from Frankfurt am Main. The city is known for its Baroque Johannisburg Palace, the Schönbusch English landscape park, and its position on the Main river. Its proximity to Frankfurt gives students access to one of Europe's largest financial and logistics hubs while benefitting from significantly lower living costs than in Frankfurt itself.

Student life & support

The International Office and Career Service ([email protected]) provides incoming international students with support on university admission, accommodation search, dealings with local authorities, and a student Buddy Programme that pairs newcomers with volunteer student guides. A Language Centre on campus offers German language courses. The university estimates monthly living costs of approximately €1,020, including rent (~€410), food (~€200), and health insurance (~€120). Students must demonstrate financial means of €992/month (€11,904/year) for visa and residence permit purposes, typically via a blocked account (Sperrkonto). Scholarships available to international degree students include the Deutschlandstipendium and the annual DAAD Prize (€1,000).
