Admissions & costs

Tuition & fees

As a public Bavarian university, Hochschule Ansbach charges no tuition fees for first-degree study. From Winter Semester 2025/26, Bavaria introduced a semester fee of €160 for non-EU/EEA international students studying a first degree (this fee does not apply to EU/EEA nationals or to exchange/Erasmus students). All students pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) covering administrative costs and the student services organisation (Studentenwerk); the exact amount was not published on the pages retrieved and should be confirmed with the university directly.

Admission requirements

International degree-seeking applicants must hold a recognised higher-education entrance qualification. Applicants from India, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), and Vietnam are required to obtain an APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle) from the German Embassy before their student visa application. Proof of German language proficiency at B2 level (e.g. TestDaF, DSH, Goethe-Zertifikat) is required for German-taught programmes; English-taught courses require B2 English. Exchange and Erasmus+ students are nominated by their home university and are exempt from the German proficiency requirement, though strong German is strongly recommended given that most lectures are in German. Applications are submitted via uni-assist or directly as specified per programme.

Application deadlines

For Erasmus+ and exchange students, home universities must submit nominations by 31 May for the winter semester (October start) and 30 November for the summer semester (April start). Housing reservation deadlines for exchange students are 15 June (winter) and 15 December (summer). Deadlines for direct international degree applicants are not published on the pages retrieved; applicants should check uni-assist and the specific programme page.

Languages of instruction

The majority of programmes are taught in German. English-language modules and some English-taught master's programmes are available; the course catalogue lists English-language offerings for incoming exchange students. Exchange students with B2 English and basic German can follow a selection of courses. German B2 level is the recommended proficiency for students taking primarily German-taught courses.

Ansbach is a historic Franconian town in the Middle Franconia region of Bavaria, located approximately 40 km south-west of Nuremberg. It is a manageable mid-size city with a well-preserved Baroque old town, the Ansbach Residence (Markgräfliche Residenz), and a relaxed student-friendly atmosphere. Nuremberg is reachable by regional train in around 35–45 minutes, offering access to a major international airport and a larger urban centre.

Student life & support

The International Office (located at the main Ansbach campus) provides dedicated support for incoming students including an orientation programme with a mandatory orientation week and a free preparatory German intensive course held one week before semester start. German language instruction continues throughout the semester at approximately 6 hours per week. Limited dormitory spaces on Schöneckerstraße are reserved for exchange students (apply by 15 June for winter, 15 December for summer); full degree international students apply for housing through the regional Studentenwerk. The Global Friendship Hub connects international and domestic students for networking and cultural exchange. The university holds ADFC Gold certification as a bicycle-friendly campus.
