Admissions & fees

What it costs

Tuition-free for all standard bachelor's and master's programmes at this public Fachhochschule in Sachsen-Anhalt. Sachsen-Anhalt does not levy general tuition fees or non-EU surcharges. The only fee-based programme is the M.A. Sexologie (Sexology), which is a continuing-education degree. The semester contribution for Winter Semester 2026/27 is €326.80, comprising: Studentenwerk fee €90.00, Deutschlandsemesterticket (nationwide public transit pass) €226.80, and student body fee €10.00. Part-time and certain specialist master's programmes have a different/reduced contribution.

Admission requirements

International applicants for bachelor's programmes must hold a university entrance qualification (HZB) recognised for Germany; school-leaving certificates that qualify for university in the home country are generally accepted, though some require completion of a Studienkolleg preparatory year and the Feststellungsprüfung (FSP) exam. Master's programmes require a first academic degree with at least 180 ECTS (some programmes require 210 ECTS, with an adaptation semester available for deficits). Language: Most programmes require DSH-2, TestDaF (4 × TDN 4 or 16+ total), Telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, Goethe C2, or DSD II. Certain bachelor's and master's programmes accept reduced German proof (1 × TDN 4 / 3 × TDN 3 / DSH-1) with mandatory language courses in the first two semesters. The English-taught Engineering and Management bachelor's requires B2 English; no German proof is required. APS certificate: Required for applicants from China, Mongolia, and Vietnam. Not required for Indian applicants (India is not on the APS requirement list at this institution - verify with the admissions office at time of application, as APS India requirements are set nationally for visa, not by individual universities). Applications are submitted via uni-assist (€75 first programme, €30 each additional). Processing takes 4-6 weeks. Original documents only; copies are not accepted.

Application deadlines

Via uni-assist. Bachelor's restricted admission: 15 June (winter semester). Bachelor's unrestricted: 31 August (winter semester). Master's restricted winter: 15 May. Master's restricted summer: 15 November. Master's unrestricted winter: 31 August. Master's unrestricted summer: 31 January. Exchange students (incoming): 31 May for winter semester, 30 November for summer semester.

How international applicants apply

uni-assist full application - the Hochschule Merseburg does not accept direct applications with foreign credentials; they are pre-checked by uni-assist (EUR 75 first choice / EUR 30 additional, online-only upload) and forwarded to the university after positive review. Direct application only if credentials are already evaluated in Germany (Landesschulamt Sachsen-Anhalt / ZAB) or after passing the Feststellungsprüfung. Also used for Studienkolleg applications.

Languages of instruction

Primarily German-taught. One English-taught bachelor's programme (Engineering and Management) is available, requiring B2 English only. German language courses from A1 to C1 are offered on campus for international students.

Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
