Admissions & fees

What it costs

Tuition-free for all bachelor's programmes and consecutive master's programmes at this public Saxony institution. No non-EU surcharge (Saxony does not levy the Baden-Württemberg-style non-EU fee). Students pay a semester contribution of €107 per semester (€92 Studentenwerk + €15 Studentenschaft). Fee-based programmes exist only for non-consecutive master's and distance-learning courses.

Admission requirements

International applicants apply directly through the university's online portal (HISinOne). Most programmes are admission-open (no NC); restricted programmes such as Media Management and Social Work require prior registration via hochschulstart.de and an administrative fee of €250. Applicants from India, China, and Vietnam must submit an APS Certificate (original) as a mandatory document. Entry qualification accepted: Abitur, Fachhochschulreife, or equivalent recognised foreign secondary school leaving certificate; for master's programmes, a first academic degree with transcript is required. Language: German-taught programmes require DSH-2 or TestDaF 4×TDN4 (or equivalents such as Goethe C2, Telc C1 Hochschule, DSD II). English-taught programmes accept IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL iBT 76, B2 First 173, UNIcert II, or Duolingo 110; applicants who completed their prior degree in English may submit a Medium of Instruction letter instead.

Application deadlines

Winter Semester (October start): 15 April - 15 July (missing documents accepted until 20 July). Summer Semester (April start): 15 October - 15 January (missing documents accepted until 20 January). Note: nearly all bachelor's programmes begin in winter semester only; Social Work and select master's programmes also admit in summer semester.

How international applicants apply

No uni-assist - applications with international certificates are submitted DIRECTLY via the HSMW application portal (campus.hs-mittweida.de); there is no application fee and pre-admissions are issued immediately after document check, not after the deadline. Only two bachelor programmes (Soziale Arbeit, Medienmanagement) additionally require registration at hochschulstart.de (BID/BAN transferred into the HSMW portal). Studienkolleg (FSP/DSH) applications also run through the same portal; Studienkolleg invitation requires a EUR 250 handling fee credited against course fees.

Languages of instruction

Most bachelor's and master's programmes are taught in German; a growing number of master's programmes are available in English. German-taught programmes require at minimum DSH-2 or TestDaF 4×TDN4. English-taught programmes require IELTS Academic 6.0 / TOEFL iBT 76+ / B2 First 173+ / Duolingo 110+.

Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
