Living in Mittweida

Mittweida is a small university town in central Saxony, situated between Chemnitz and Leipzig. The compact campus and town centre are fully walkable, making it one of Germany's most affordable student locations - dormitory rooms cost approximately €200/month compared to €400-€600 in major German cities. The surrounding region offers easy rail connections to Chemnitz (30 min) and Dresden (1 hr).

Student life & support

The university's own description characterises Mittweida as a focused, relaxed college-town environment where students can walk to all facilities without public transport. On-campus dormitory housing is managed through Studentenwerk Freiberg; applications must be submitted by 30 June (winter) or 1 January (summer). Monthly living costs are estimated at around €632, including dormitory (~€210), food (~€300), health insurance (~€105), and the broadcast fee (~€17.50). The International Office provides dedicated support for incoming students via the [email protected] address.
