Living in Heidelberg

Heidelberg is a university city of approximately 160,000 inhabitants located in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region in Baden-Württemberg. It is a UNESCO City of Literature, home to Germany's oldest university, and is internationally recognised for its Baroque old town and castle. The city has a large student population, extensive cycling infrastructure, good rail connections to Frankfurt and Stuttgart, and a range of cultural and student social life options.

Student life & support

The Student Service Centre (SSC), located in the old building (Room 012a), is the primary contact point for all study-related questions. The university has an Akademisches Auslandsamt (International Office) as a central facility. Housing is available in student halls of residence or private accommodation in Heidelberg and surrounding areas; students are advised to research availability and costs early. Psychosocial counselling, disability support, and family-friendly services are available on campus. The university maintains a campus blog and active student club scene, including a dance club.
