Admissions & fees

What it costs

As a Baden-Württemberg state university, TH Mannheim charges non-EU/EEA international students a tuition fee of €1,500 per semester (introduced from WS 2017/18), in addition to the general semester contribution. The semester contribution for Summer Semester 2026 is €194.60 (comprising €100.00 student services, €14.60 student council, €80.00 administrative costs). Exemptions from the non-EU tuition fee apply to holders of German university entrance qualifications, recognised refugees, exchange/Erasmus students, and dual-degree programme participants.

Admission requirements

International applicants with foreign qualifications must first have their credentials assessed through Studienkolleg HTWG Konstanz before applying via the university's campus management portal. German language proficiency is required for most programmes: DSH-2, TestDaF with TDN 4 in all four sections, or telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule are accepted. Applicants from India, China, and Vietnam must present an original APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate as part of their application. Non-EU applicants must also demonstrate financial capacity to cover living costs (required for the student visa / blocked account). Applicants holding German secondary qualifications (Bildungsinländer) apply via hochschulstart.de.

Application deadlines

Winter Semester: restricted programmes 15 May - 15 July; unrestricted programmes 15 May - 20 September; higher semesters 15 May - 13 September. Summer Semester: restricted programmes 15 November - 15 January; unrestricted programmes 15 November - 15 March. Special deadlines apply to certain programmes (Electrical Engineering, Engineering and Management, Biotechnology, Kommunikationsdesign, Social Work Plus) - confirm via the admissions portal.

How international applicants apply

NO uni-assist - certificate review via Studienkolleg Konstanz + own portal. International applicants and EU citizens with FOREIGN certificates must first have their certificates recognised by the Studienkolleg HTWG Konstanz, which checks the qualifications and issues the access entitlement; afterwards they apply through the Hochschule Mannheim Campusportal. Bildungsinlaender (foreign nationals with a German HZB) apply directly via hochschulstart.de. Applicants from China, Vietnam and India additionally need the original APS certificate (Academic Verification Office). Non-EU/international students pay the Baden-Württemberg fee of 1500 EUR per semester. No uni-assist or VPD route is documented.

Languages of instruction

Instruction is primarily in German. German language proficiency at DSH-2, TestDaF TDN 4 (all sections), or telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule is required for most bachelor programmes. An English-language information portal (english.hs-mannheim.de) exists for international applicants; availability of English-taught degree programmes should be confirmed with individual faculties.

Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
