Admissions & fees

What it costs

Universität Augsburg is a Bavarian public university. As of available information, the main per-semester cost is a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) of €181.95, payable to the Free State of Bavaria at enrolment. Bavaria introduced tuition fees for non-EU/EEA students from WS 2025/26 (€3,000/semester for non-EU students at Bavarian state universities - verify current amount on the university's official fees page before publication, as the official page for this specific fee was not accessible during research). Tuition is otherwise not charged for consecutive bachelor's and master's programmes.

Admission requirements

International applicants must hold a foreign higher education entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung) recognised in Germany. Applicants whose qualification is from India, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), or Vietnam must obtain an APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate before applying - this is a German embassy requirement, not university-specific. All applicants with foreign qualifications apply via the university's VIBS online portal. German language proficiency is required for German-taught programmes (recognised certificates: TestDaF, DSH, Goethe, telc, or equivalent); English proficiency tests (TOEFL iBT min. 42 for B1, IELTS min. 4.5 for B1) are accepted where applicable. Specific requirements vary by degree programme and should be confirmed in the individual programme description. For bachelor's programmes, applications with foreign certificates carry an earlier processing deadline (September 17, 2026 for WS 2026/27).

Application deadlines

Deadlines vary by programme type and semester. For Summer Semester 2026: selected master's programmes (e.g. English and American Studies M.A., Materials Science and Engineering M.Sc.) had a deadline of September 10; most master's and doctoral programmes by November 6; remaining programmes by December 3. For Winter Semester: bachelor's applications with foreign certificates have an earlier processing deadline (September 17 cited for WS 2026/27). Applicants should consult the individual degree programme description on the VIBS portal for the exact deadline, as dates differ by programme and admission type.

How international applicants apply

VPD via uni-assist plus the university's own portal. Applicants with foreign school or university certificates apply online in the Universitaet Augsburg VIBS portal and upload an amtlich beglaubigte copies, a Vorpruefungsdokumentation (VPD) from uni-assist issued specifically 'fuer die Universitaet Augsburg' (request early - uni-assist needs 6-8 weeks), APS certificate for China/India/Vietnam, German proof, passport copy and CV. For NC-restricted subjects (including Humanmedizin) applicants must register with hochschulstart first, then apply in VIBS; deadlines: 15 July for NC/EFV programmes, 17 September 2026 for NC-free programmes without Studienkolleg.

Languages of instruction

The majority of degree programmes are taught in German. A Language Centre (Sprachenzentrum) offers language courses - including German - open to all enrolled students. English-language programme availability should be verified per programme in the university's degree catalogue. English proficiency evidence (e.g. TOEFL iBT, IELTS, Cambridge, telc, UNIcert) is accepted for programmes requiring English skills.

Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
