About Evangelische Hochschule Darmstadt (staatlich anerkannt) - Ki
Evangelische Hochschule Darmstadt (EHD) - now operating under the umbrella name Evangelische Hochschule Hessen (EHH) - is a state-recognised university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule) under the patronage of the Evangelische Kirche in Hessen und Nassau (EKHN) and the Evangelische Kirche von Kurhessen-Waldeck (EKKW). Founded in 1971, it trains students for careers in social welfare, health care, and church-related services across three study locations in Hesse: Darmstadt (primary), Schwalmstadt-Treysa, and Kassel.
The university enrols approximately 1,650-1,700 students and is staffed by around 45 professors, 20 academic staff, and roughly 100 visiting lecturers per semester. Its deliberately small seminar sizes and strong student-teacher ratio create a personal academic atmosphere. EHH holds a family-friendly university certification (since 2022) and operates psychotherapeutic counselling for students.
Degree programmes cover Social Work (B.A./M.A.), Childhood Education (B.A.), Health Promotion, Religious Education, and Nonprofit Management (a fee-based continuing-education master's). The institution maintains 54 international partner universities across 23 countries and participates actively in the ERASMUS+ programme.
Formed on 1 April 2026 from the merger of Evangelische Hochschule Darmstadt (founded 1971) and the CVJM-Hochschule (founded 2009) - the first joint foundation of EKHN, EKKW and the CVJM-Gesamtverband in Deutschland.
Three study locations during the transition phase: Darmstadt, Schwalmstadt-Treysa (Campus Hephata) and Kassel; approx. 1,650 students, 45 professors.
International office maintains ERASMUS+ partnerships incl. exchange projects in Indonesia and Armenia.

What it costs
No tuition fees for bachelor's and consecutive master's programmes. A one-time enrolment fee (Immatrikulationsgebühr) of €300 applies on first enrolment. The semester contribution is approximately €300 per semester (recalculated each semester; includes a regional public-transport semester ticket). No separate non-EU surcharge is mentioned. The Nonprofit Management continuing-education master's is a fee-based programme (approx. €12,900 total, excluding exam fees).
Admission requirements
Applicants must hold a German Hochschulzugangsberechtigung or a recognised equivalent foreign qualification. Applications are submitted via the university's online application portal (Bewerbungsamt). Language of instruction is mainly German; German-language programmes require proof of German proficiency. Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants whose prior qualification was earned in those countries must obtain an APS certificate before applying. Specific entry requirements vary by programme; contact the Bewerbungsamt for individual assessment.
Application deadlines
Bachelor programmes admit for the winter semester only; the application window runs from early May to mid-July (for winter semester 2026/27: 1 May to 15 July for applicants with international certificates, with some bachelor deadlines extended to late August). The Master 'Inclusive Education / Heilpädagogik' closes at the end of August. Applications for the master programmes 'Soziale Arbeit' and 'Religionspädagogik' open in January for the following summer semester.
How international applicants apply
Not used. Applications run exclusively through the university's own portal bewerbung.eh-hessen.de. Applicants who do not yet hold a higher-education entrance qualification recognised in Germany have their certificates forwarded by the Admissions Office to the Hessisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Forschung, Kunst und Kultur for evaluation (cost-bearing); International Baccalaureate diplomas are assessed by the Hessische Kultusministerium in Wiesbaden; the ministry also decides on Studienkolleg attendance. EH Hessen is not on the official uni-assist member list for Hessen.
Languages of instruction
Primarily German. Select bachelor's programmes (e.g. Social Work B.A., Childhood Education B.A.) are offered in English.
Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
