Admissions & fees

What it costs

No tuition fees for bachelor's and consecutive master's programmes at this public Fachhochschule in Sachsen-Anhalt (no non-EU surcharge as in Baden-Württemberg or Bavaria). Students pay a semester contribution covering the student service fee (Studentenwerksbeitrag), a semester ticket for local public transport in Wernigerode and Halberstadt (city buses, trams, and Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe regional services; trains excluded), and the student body contribution (Studierendenschaftsbeitrag). Exact current amounts are published on the university's fees page; specific figures were not displayed in the version reviewed.

Admission requirements

International applicants to bachelor's programmes must hold a higher education entrance qualification (HZB) recognised as equivalent to the German Abitur; the university uses the anabin database for assessment. Applicants whose school qualification is not fully recognised must complete a Studienkolleg (foundation year) first. Applications are submitted exclusively through uni-assist (my.uni-assist.de); processing takes 4-6 weeks after submission. Applicants from India, China, and Vietnam must present a valid APS certificate (exceptions apply for graduates of German Studienkolleg or holders of EU/German scholarships). German-language bachelor's programmes require certified proof of sufficient German proficiency (specific certificates listed on the university's language requirements page). Application deadlines: Winter Semester - restricted-admission programmes by 15 June, admission-free programmes by 31 July; Summer Semester - restricted-admission programmes by 15 December, admission-free programmes by 31 January.

Application deadlines

Bachelor's degree programmes - Winter Semester: 15 June (restricted admission), 31 July (open admission); Summer Semester: 15 December (restricted admission), 31 January (open admission). Exchange/Erasmus students - nomination by 15 April (winter) / 15 October (summer); application by 30 April (winter) / 30 October (summer).

How international applicants apply

Yes - Hochschule Harz is a uni-assist partner university (listed separately for Campus Halberstadt and Campus Wernigerode on uni-assist's university list). Applicants with a foreign higher-education entrance qualification route their application through uni-assist (My assist portal); applications with a German qualification run through the university's own online application. International applicant enquiries go to the International Office ([email protected]).

Languages of instruction

Most bachelor's programmes are taught in German. Two programmes are offered in English: International Business Studies and International Tourism Studies. Exchange students may attend courses in either German or English (minimum B2 in the respective language required).

Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
