Admissions & fees

What it costs

Dual study programmes: €0/month tuition - the partner company covers fees entirely and typically pays students a monthly salary of approximately €200-€500 (varies by employer and programme; Physiotherapy/Ergotherapy therapy-track students receive no salary in semesters 1-6). Full-time programmes: €679/month. International Year One (preparatory): €489/month. All programmes are at a private, state-recognised institution; there is no public-university tuition-free status. Baden-Württemberg non-EU surcharge does not apply (iba Darmstadt is in Hessen). A one-time €200 HZB evaluation fee applies for international applicants.

Admission requirements

International applicants must hold a recognised higher education entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung) from their home country. Three entry pathways exist: (1) Dual Study - requires a recognised HZB, C1 German (or DSD II), B1 English, a valid German student visa, and a blocked bank account of at least €8,500; the practical partner company must also be secured before enrolment. (2) Full-Time Study - same language and visa requirements as dual study (C1 German, B1 English, €8,500 blocked account). (3) International Year One (preparatory/Studienkolleg-equivalent) - requires a home-country HZB, A2 German, B2 English (no certificate required), valid student visa, and €8,500 blocked account. APS certificate: The iba's own admission pages do not mention the APS requirement, but Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants are required by German consular regulations to obtain an APS certificate before applying for a student visa regardless of the institution. Indian applicants with Class XII ≥70% qualify for APS. The iba's International Office should be contacted to confirm whether APS is required at the application stage or only at visa stage. Application begins via the iba-Career portal to secure a dual-study practice partner, or directly via the international office for full-time and preparatory tracks. A one-time €200 qualification evaluation fee applies for international applicants (charged by the Hessian Ministry).

Application deadlines

Dual study intakes begin twice per year: 1 April and 1 October. Specific application deadlines are not published on the official website; applicants are directed to the iba-Career portal to secure a partner company placement, which effectively determines the intake date. International applicants should allow additional lead time for visa processing (4-10 weeks for India) and APS certificate (approximately 4 weeks for Indian applicants).

How international applicants apply

Not documented - dual via employer + direct portal. Applications run through iba's own career portal (ibaCareer.com: profile creation, upload of latest school report and CV, application day, matching with a practice company); a work/training contract with a cooperating company (brought by the applicant or found via iba's placement support) is a mandatory admission requirement of the dual model, alongside the HZB and German language proof. Foreign school and university certificates must be recognised as equivalent in Germany, with individual advice from iba's counselling team; uni-assist is not mentioned anywhere in the admission pages and iba does not appear on uni-assist's official member list.

Languages of instruction

German is the primary language of instruction for all regular programmes. An International Year One preparatory programme and select full-time programmes are available in English as a parallel track; dual-study programmes require C1 German. Weekly information sessions are held in German, English, Spanish, and Turkish.

Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
