About WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management

WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management is a private, state-recognised business school founded in 1984 on the initiative of the Koblenz Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It operates two campuses: the main campus in Vallendar (near Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate) and a second campus in Düsseldorf. The school holds triple accreditation from EQUIS, AACSB, and FIBAA (system accreditation), placing it among a small group of globally accredited business schools.

WHU offers bachelor's, master's, MBA, doctoral, and executive education programmes exclusively in the field of management and business. 33% of the total student body are international students (including exchange students), and the school maintains partnerships with over 200 universities worldwide. As of 2025, WHU is ranked #1 in Germany and #22 worldwide in the Financial Times Masters in Management ranking, and #2 in Germany (#69 globally) in the Financial Times Global MBA ranking.

As a private institution, WHU charges tuition fees for all its degree programmes. It is not a public Fachhochschule or state university, so the standard German tuition-free model does not apply here. The school emphasises small class sizes, mandatory international experience, and a strong alumni entrepreneurship network: approximately 7,350 alumni members and over 2,400 companies co-founded by WHU graduates.

Admissions & costs

Tuition & fees

WHU is a private, fee-charging institution; tuition-free status does not apply. Exact tuition amounts per programme are not published as a consolidated table on the official website. The Bachelor programme page confirms fees exist (BAföG-eligible German students can apply for partial fee reduction, and scholarships including Women in Business scholarships are available). The Full-Time MBA carries substantial tuition; specific amounts were not retrievable from the official site during this research pass. Applicants should consult individual programme tuition/financing pages at whu.edu for current figures. No semester administration contribution (Semesterbeitrag) in the public-university sense is listed.

Admission requirements

WHU is a private business school; admission is competitive and programme-specific. For the Bachelor in International Business Administration, applicants must hold a recognised university entrance qualification (Abitur, IB, A-Levels, or equivalent) and demonstrate advanced English proficiency: TOEFL iBT ≥ 95, IELTS Academic ≥ 6.5, or Cambridge C1 Advanced grade C or above. A minimum six-week business-related internship is also required before enrolment. Selection involves written tests and an interview; WHU uses a rolling-rounds system (three rounds per intake year). For Master and MBA programmes, a GMAT or GRE score is typically required — applicants should consult individual programme pages for exact thresholds. Indian applicants whose prior qualification is from an Indian institution must note that WHU is a private institution and the APS certificate is required for the German student visa application regardless; WHU itself does not publish an APS-specific admission policy, but the German embassy will require APS for Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese nationals as part of the visa process.

Application deadlines

Bachelor in International Business Administration (intake September 2026): three rolling rounds — Round 1 deadline 31 January 2026, Round 2 deadline 31 March 2026, Round 3 deadline 15 May 2026. Application opens 15 October 2025. Master and MBA application deadlines are programme-specific and rolling; applicants should check individual programme pages at whu.edu.

Languages of instruction

All WHU degree programmes are taught in English, or in a combination of English and German. The Bachelor in International Business Administration is offered in English or in a bilingual English/German track. Master and MBA programmes are English-taught. No German-only degree programme is offered.
