About GIU Berlin
The German International University (GIU) in Berlin is a state-recognised private, non-profit university operating under Berlin state law. Founded in 2019, it offers practice- and research-oriented degree programmes entirely in English, covering engineering, management, architecture, and design.
GIU's single campus is located at Am Borsigturm 162, 13507 Berlin (Reinickendorf/Tegel district), approximately 200 metres from U-Bahn station Borsigwerke (U6). The campus provides PC pools, Wi-Fi, a library, a cafeteria, and co-working spaces within a modern facility.
The university offers 13 accredited programmes (6 Bachelor's, 7 Master's) and maintains a focus on international students from across Europe, Africa, and Asia. Tuition is charged per semester at a fixed rate regardless of nationality.

Admissions & fees
What it costs
GIU Berlin charges €3,715 per semester for all students regardless of nationality (fee confirmed for 2025/26 academic year). This covers all academic courses as per the study plan. A refundable lab deposit of €420 is required at enrolment. Monthly payment plans are available from the second semester onward. There is no public-university tuition-free structure here - GIU is a private institution.
Admission requirements
Applicants must hold a secondary school leaving certificate recognised as a university entrance qualification in Germany (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung - verifiable via the KMK anabin database). Those without a directly recognised qualification may be considered if they have completed at least one year of study at a recognised German university abroad. Master's applicants must hold a relevant bachelor's degree. All applicants must demonstrate English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 overall or TOEFL iBT 86 (paper-based 560); applicants with lower scores may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Admission also requires an on-campus aptitude test and interview (test fee applies). Non-EU students applying from India, China, or Vietnam are additionally required to hold a valid APS certificate from the German Academic Evaluation Centre before a student visa can be issued. GIU advises non-EU applicants to apply as early as possible to allow adequate time for visa processing.
Application deadlines
GIU operates rolling admissions; no fixed national application deadline applies. Programmes remain open until cohort capacity is filled. Non-EU students should apply as early as possible (recommended: at least 4-5 months before intended semester start) to allow time for visa processing. Winter Semester starts October; Summer Semester starts April.
How international applicants apply
Direct application - no uni-assist. The official GIU admission page (giu-berlin.de/admission.aspx) documents the university's own process: online application with documents sent to [email protected], computerized reasoning and English tests (alternatively TOEFL iBT 86+ / IELTS 6.5+) and an interview, followed by a final study offer. GIU Berlin does not appear in the uni-assist partner-university list.
