Living in Weingarten

Weingarten is a small city of approximately 25,000 residents in the Ravensburg district of Baden-Württemberg, situated in Upper Swabia roughly 90 km east of Freiburg and 20 km north of Lake Constance (Bodensee). The city is known for the Weingarten Abbey, a major baroque basilica on the Martinsberg hill that also forms the backdrop for the university campus. The surrounding region offers easy access to the Alps, Lake Constance recreational areas, and the cities of Ravensburg and Friedrichshafen. The nearest international airport is Friedrichshafen (about 30 km); Stuttgart and Munich airports are reachable by train in approximately 2-2.5 hours.

Student life & support

The International Office ([email protected]) coordinates exchange and mobility programmes and provides dedicated support for incoming students, including pre-arrival guidance and orientation. Student housing is managed through Seezeit - the student services organisation for the Lake Constance-Upper Swabia region - which operates dormitories in Weingarten; applications must be submitted separately to Seezeit by 15 June (summer) or 15 December (winter). The university's incoming programme includes an introductory course on German language, culture, and the school system. A campus orientation week (Semestereinstiegswoche) is held at the start of each semester. The university is certified as a family-friendly institution and provides counselling, coaching, and study advisory services through its Studierenden Service Zentrum.
